Home Health Care Agencies Saves the Government and You Money

Home Health Care Costs < Hospital & Institutions

Simply put, in many cases, it’s much more financially sustainable to service individuals at their place of residence rather than in hospitals or other large institutions. The overhead costs of hospitals are substantial; relative to their size; while the costs of servicing someone at their home is minimal in comparison. Ultimately, savings comes down to items billed. The hospital will generally bill for more than a home health agency and potentially at higher rates.

Here's Why

Let’s use two example scenarios to keep it simple.

Example 1:
Person 1 just had surgery and needs a nurse to provide a service daily. Maybe once or twice a day. This person is unable to continue their regular daily activities and needs help with bathing, grooming and preparing meals.

Person 1 can stay at a hospital or large facility that will provide all of these needed services. While this person is in the  hospital and large facility, these institutions will bill daily for these needed services and also for the bed/room, all of the equipment on standby or in use, and any other extra services they may provide. On the other hand, this person can go to the comfort and familiarity of their home and still receive all of the needed services through a home health care agency with no extra costs.

Example 2:
Person 2 is homebound and needs daily care while family members are at work. This person is generally alright, but is unable to use the restroom alone, and requires assistance with their daily activities.

Person 2 can go daily or on specific days to a facility for several hours. This facility will bill for the needed services, but may also bill for other costs like transportation (if applicable), utilities, food, and other services depending on the facility. Again, on the other hand, this person can remain in the comfort and familiarity of their home and receive all of the needed services through a home health care agency with no extra costs.

Health > Costs

Of course, in some scenarios, a hospital or large facility is absolutely the best option regardless of the costs. These were two simple examples of where the savings may come from while using a home health care agency. We recommend that all individuals consult with their doctors first!
